Deborah Baker is a partner in the litigation practice group at SMGQ Law. Ms. Baker focuses her law practice in the area of commercial litigation, with significant emphasis in the areas of business and real estate litigation. Ms. Baker has represented public and private companies in a variety of corporate litigation matters, and has represented receivers. She has litigated several derivative lawsuits, ending with favorable outcomes for her clients.

Ms. Baker has extensive experience litigating claims of defamation. In one defamation action, she was able to get an injunction, which had been fraudulently obtained against her client, vacated, as well as an award for her client of attorneys’ fees, costs, and punitive damages. Using cutting edge forensic technology, Ms. Baker has been able to successfully identify the perpetrators of anonymous internet–based libel. She has been repeatedly engaged to help clients get fraudulent and false information disseminated about them on the internet taken down.

Ms. Baker has also advised clients on intellectual property matters, including a multi-national retail business with respect to a claim of trademark and copyright infringement. Ms. Baker was able to guide her client towards a favorable resolution without litigation.

Ms. Baker has obtained her FINRA Series 7, 55, and 63 licenses, and has represented claimants before FINRA arbitration panels and the American Arbitration Association. Ms. Baker also has experience litigating jury and non-jury trials and handling appeals in both state and federal courts.
